 Lifeline Shoebox First Fundraiser

In 2013 Lifeline Shoebox had its very first fundraiser. The fundraiser was held at an annual event in the  city of Winston-Salem.  The event was The Happy Hill Reunion which was known to bring in a lot of visitors. The items for the fundraiser were all donated items from some of the members of Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center along with individual community donations. We had every kind of homemade baked good from homemade cakes, brownies, cupcakes, candy and so much more. We had water and drinks to quench the thirst of the visitors and we had a table positioned at the front of the event.  We felt like we were in a position to profit. However although all of these things appeared to be in our favor we did not anticipate what was to come.  On this day it started out somewhat hazy and then it happened. It rained. If you have ever heard the term CATS AND DOGS….that’s what happened… It rained and it rained and it rained…. Buckets of rain….as we ran trying our best to save our perishable items…And then there was the dilemma of what to do with what we had not sold….and that was a lot… So we decided that since we were unable to sell the items due to the weather we would donate them. The perishable items were donated to the Youth for them to sell in their store in support of their many activities.  The nonperishable items…drinks and water were saved to be used at our wrap parties. These are parties where student volunteers at WSSU wrap our boxes for the Lifeline Shoebox drive.

Although our first fundraiser did not net us a monetary profit…it was quite profitable. We profited in the experience, the team work and the love of sharing and learning.  I extend a very special thank you to each and every one who had a hand in Lifeline Shoeboxes First Fundraiser.  It was a wonderful learning experience…To God Be All The Glory.
